So I had to do something with them, right?

I had these, too...

So I thought maybe I could use them together. Make a nice flower-y piece. Who doesn't like flowers? I thought the colors worked pretty well together, and in my mind the mixture of styles would be good together.

I thought wrong.

Yeah... no.

So now I have this...

...which I like. I'm not sure what I'll do with it yet, but I do like it.

And I have the start of a pendant/focal piece.

I'm sure it will be awesome when I figure out how to finish it off. But for now it goes into the "almost" bin. Hopefully it won't be there long.
I "work" at night. (no, I don't really consider it real work either, so don't feel bad if you rolled you eyes at the word) After a workout, walking the dog, playing with three kids, running errands, going to the pool, cleaning the house, feeding the hoard, and doing laundry, I tend to be a bit on the tired side by the time I head down to the dungeon to work. Not to mention my brain is rather foggy, if it hasn't shut down completely. But I take my tunes and water jug, and down I go.

*I promise this is going somewhere...*

Once things really get going, I start getting all pumped about what I'm doing. It's really a lot of fun when things go right. And I'm trying to get more and more into trying new techniques and not being so safe. Know what I mean? And that can mean not really knowing what I'm doing, or if what I THINK I'm doing is working like I think it will.

So. There I am. Staring with glee at my newest creation. I can tell you, knowing you won't judge me in the least, (right???) that there have been times that I run down stairs the next morning so I can snap a pic of my new brain-child and have some sort of "well shit." reaction. Sometimes what is mind-blowing awesomesauce at night through dry contacts and blurry eyes is something that leaves a bit to be desired the next morning.

The other night I made a pair of earrings. My mind went back and forth between elation at the creation in my head that was becoming reality, and remembering all the times it turned out to be complete crap the next day. But I finished them and was still really happy the next morning. That meant it was time for the ultimate test. Posting them on Facebook. I can always count on my fans to let me know what works, and what is just plain lousy.

And you liked them. You REALLY REALLY liked them.

It made me so happy. That's the kind of "Next Morning" I like.
B. A quick little update, for those of you that don't know me personally... My family and I moved to Dayton, OH. So between the holidays, getting ready for the move, the move itself, and getting settled in our new home, it's been quite some time since I have actually made any jewelry. It's sad, I know.

But for some freakish reason, the thought of getting back in it scares the living daylights out of me. I have no idea why. But that's the way it is.

When I went into JoAnn's a couple weeks ago, I almost had a panic attack in the jewelry section. It was really overwhelming. I had a lot of ideas coming at me, but I'm not always sure if I should even bother to continue making jewelry (let's face it, there's not a single thing that I've made that all of you couldn't make as well). But I found a few things that I just couldn't put down, so I bought them. Haven't touched them since.

And then there's my work space. It's down in the basement, where no one really spends any time. (we're working on that... it's going to be a rec room soon.) And my husband is no longer at the desk next to me. His desk is on the main floor. He didn't buy my reasons for why he should put his desk downstairs, such as to keep me company. Lame. So I will be down there all by myself. Maybe I would be more productive without anyone to distract me, but I just haven't been able to make myself give it a go. And the thought of organizing all my supplies... UGH.

I'm a sad and pathetic person right now, I know. All eye-rolling is welcome. I deserve it.

But what this all really comes down to is me wondering if what I make is any good, or if it's all just "Eh."B. But I think it's also been a bit too boring and generic at times. I don't think I have pushed myself to think outside the box nearly as much as I should have been. So the last couple of weeks I've been trying to push myself a bit more. I'm not 100% sure that my results are anything that people will take a second look at, but it feels good to try some things that I haven't done before.

On our family trip to Montana, I picked up a magazine that was very different from any others I've grabbed over the last few years. It was also rather expensive, and is only published twice per year. But I found a lot of inspiration in it. I'm torn when it comes to looking at other peoples' work. I love it and try to soak it all in, but at the same time it shines a light on my own lack of creativity. But overall, it gives me goals to work towards, and ideas on how to get there.

This three-strand pearl necklace is the most "outside" I've gotten so far. The clasp is on the side, rather than in back. The ribbon that goes around the back is a bit frilly and stretchy, and I think it works well with the pearls and charms I added on.
But for me there's a difference between orders and things I create. I don't mind orders. But getting to come up with something totally different is really a fine thing for me. I'm hoping in the next few months to add some new methods/mediums to what I already do. But that'll have to wait just a bit longer.

For Karissa's Wedding. Love her to pieces!

I've finished the jewelry for two weddings. One for an old friend and one for a new friend. Now that those are finished, I'm getting to my other orders. But I have to have SOME free time in there too, don't I? So each night I work on one order. And when it's finished I spend the rest of the night playing with new things. It works well for me.

Inter mixed with the orders, I've created two new pieces that I'm really happy with. I think they're absolutely beautiful. It's going to be really hard to part with them.

Smokey Elegance

The first is a necklace and earring set. I've called it Smokey Elegance. This set is actually not for sale. I've donated it to my mom group MyOmahaMommies for the national auction that TheMommiesNetwork is holding to support all of its' chapters. I hope it brings in a little something. It's a wonderful organization that I'm thrilled to be part of. I'm still considering whether to make another. It may happen. It might not. You'll have to let me know if you'd like to see one for sale.

Braided Beauty: Price TBD

The other is a braided bracelet. It's really elegant, but could definitely be worn for a more casual shindig. It's really great. It's made for a larger wrist. I could perhaps make another, and in other colors, though due to the effort/time to make it, it'll be one of my pricier pieces. You all know I prefer to keep prices low. I want my friends, and their friends, to be able to afford fun, beautiful jewelry without sending their budge to the devil. But I'm finding that some things just have to cost more. And I, personally, think this bracelet is worth a bit more. But I'd like your opinion. What would YOU pay for it?B. Accessorizedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07235144717859773388noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8806274195083996697.post-86398014549586210572011-04-28T12:53:00.000-05:002011-04-28T12:53:06.863-05:00Totally WickedI have subscribed to a number of jewelry newsletters. Some even come via Facebook. It's awesome. A few weeks ago, one of the newsletters featured an artist. I decided to take a look (I don't always) and OH MY WORD! I was in love. I loved everything about what this lady had created. Except for one thing. The price tag. Holy Shizang, were her prices high. We're talking more than $100 for a bracelet.

Yeah.

You read that right.

I know. I was surprised, too.

But still, they were some stellar bracelets. I have some theories on why they were so expensive, but I still just can't get over it.

Anyway, I decided to try to make them myself. I was worried that it was going to be more complicated than I thought. The pictures were pretty small, so I wasn't sure if I was missing something. But I gave it a go, and I am so thrilled. The possibilities with these bracelets are practically endless!

The picture kind of stinks, I know, but hopefully you get the idea. I'll be making a lot more in this style, so keep an eye on Facebook!B. Accessorizedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07235144717859773388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8806274195083996697.post-48291587403304628762011-04-13T12:28:00.000-05:002011-04-13T12:28:33.858-05:00THE OrderLast Friday, I was at the airport helping out my sister-in-law. We let the toddlers run for a bit to burn off energy, hoping to ensure a peaceful ride on the air-o-plane. Of course Alex was the perfect example of how a two-year-old should act in just such a situation. He climbed on the airport furniture (there may have been some jumping involved...). He ran for the escalators a few times. He apparently has aspirations to become a fireman since he was also rather obsessed with each and every fire extinguisher we came across. So while the hour+ was fun, it was a bit on the stressful/frustrating side.

When it was time to leave, I got him in the seat, pull out some cash to pay for the parking lot cashier's daughter's college tuition, and start to drive out of the parking lot. My phone rings. My cell phone NEVER rings. So I pull over and answer it. (still being charged a fortune as I haven't actually LEFT the parking area yet) The lady on the other end is someone whom I have never met. (I'm still totally frazzled) But she's a friend of a friend. And a year or so ago, this friend of mine had sent her some personalized bracelets for her girls. So that's how she found me. She liked the ones she got, but she wanted different ones, PLUS some to send to her neices for Easter. Totally cool. I knew it would be tight time-wise, but that's okay. I totally under-quoted her on price, but that's my own fault, and really that was the only downfall to this whole shindig.

So I bought my supplies (OUCH-sterling is expensive) and got them made. The problem is... it's REALLY hard to gauge sizes for kids. I used Alex and Isabel (while she was sleeping... it was pretty funny) but I still have no idea whether the bracelets will fit or not. *sigh* I REALLY hope they do. So say a little prayer for me, friends. I need it.

And, of course, I forgot to take pictures in my frenzy to get them mailed in time for her to get them packaged up so SHE can mail them.

But do you want to know my favorite part in all of this? It's a STRANGER that placed the order. I love when my friends order something, but, to me, someone I don't know is a better yardstick to measure by. A friend might buy something they sort of like, just to be supportive. A stranger will NOT do that. They only buy things they KNOW they want. It's a good feeling.

Sorry for the lack of pictures. I fail. I know. I'll work on it.

Stay tuned for a super fun necklace coming in the next week or two. =DB. You will definitely have to keep an eye out. I haven't decided yet how I'm going to do the sale. Thought about auctioning off a couple of pieces. Or posting one each day and it goes to the 1st person to say they want it. Or maybe they have to know the word of the day... Hmm. Or I could go with the "Name Your Price" sale. I'm all for bartering. What do you all think? What kind of sale do you want to see? Have a suggestion? There just might be an idea that I didn't come up with (though that's doubtful, as I'm totally awesome) Tell me what you think. I'd love to hear it.

Peace out, friends. B. It was totally awesome. It was also $80. Yikes. So she asked me to make an attempt at duplicating it. I know the one I made wasn't quite as good, in some ways, but in others, it was BETTER. Theirs was single strand around the back, and double in front. It was silver chain with random groupings of purple, blue, and silver "pearls" interrupting the chain. VERY pretty necklace. I got pretty close with the colors.

I'm sure you're wondering how mine was better, though, right? Well, I made mine as one LOOOONG necklace that can be wrapped to be a short one, or worn long. MUCH more versatile, don't you think? Darn tootin' =D And I even figured out the best way to wrap a necklace without it adjusting throughout the day all by itself and all that mumbo jumbo. But if you want to know that little secret, you'll just have to come see me. =D

So there it is. Thank you, Lia, for the inspiration. Or was it Premier? I don't remember.

Oh, and the kicker? I sell mine for $20. Yes, that's right. 1/4 of the price. So... if you ever see something you like, but don't want to pay the full cost, send me a link. I can't promise I'll be able to duplicate it, but I can sure try.
I had a bit of a funk, when I was just staring at all of my supplies at a complete loss as to what to DO with them. But that seems to have passed. And here I am. Thank goodness.

But first things first. I had intended to post this blog about this topic a couple of weeks ago. But thanks to my lovely computer issues, it didn't get done. So I'm starting with that. Seems to make sense, right? Right.

So here's the thing. A year or two ago, I found this amazing seed bead mix.

I ordered it, and totally fell in love with these beads. They were such a fantastically perfect mix of colors that I was practically gushing. So I made a bunch of jewelry with this lovely mix. Which lead to me needing to order more. I ordered again. Ran out again. So I go onto the site, search for them, and strike out. Okay. So I dig up my invoice to find the exact name of the mix. Search again. No luck.

WHAT!?!?! Yeah. They stopped carrying them. Lots of swear words were said. LOTS. So I've spent a lot of time searching the vast nothingness-that-is-somehow-something known as the internet. As much as I love google, I didn't have any luck. Great. So I take a meager little sample into a couple local bead stores. I figured they'd be able to tell me what TYPE of beads they are. What size, make, etc. One store told me one thing, and the other told me something totally different.

This is getting better and better, isn't it. Yeah. So I decided to make my own mix. I couldn't find anything with the size and shape I was looking for, but I got as close as I could, and ordered every color they offered (well, all the ones with the right finish). Not nearly as many colors as I would have preferred, but I decided to give it a go anyway.

I took a deep breath and opened the first package. I dumped the beads into the bucket and grabbed the next package. Let me tell ya, it's harder than you would think to take something you know is just fine and dandy on it's own and do something to it that you know you can never undo. (cause there's no way in H-E-double-hockey-sticks that I'm ever separating these beads) This is how it came out...

Not too shabby, eh? I still like the first mix better, but I'm pretty darn satisfied with my own personal mix. So the Candy necklace lives on. Sweet. (get it?) I'm just trying to ignore the part about there being only 9 colors. 9 is most definitely NOT an even number. Gah.

This week's attempt at something new was, umm, less than pretty. I actually tried 2 new things, but I can only post about one, as the other will eventually be a gift. Shhhhh!

So. The one I can talk about. Here's the thing. I've been wanting to give the whole metal stamping thing a try for a LONG time. I have gradually been buying the tools and supplies, but I have put off actually giving it a go. I'm a chicken. What can I say? Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Let's go with bad.

I know. Not pretty. At all. Pretty laughable, right? Now, just for the fun of it, let's examine them one by one. Let's start with my first one.

This was SUPPOSED to be for Isabel. It was going to be her initials. Started with the I. It went rather well, I think. Then came the R. Again, not too bad. THEN came the B. The letter B did NOT cooperate with me. I got the top half, but not the whole thing. What the deuce? So I figured, since it has already NOT turned out as it was supposed to, that I may as well keep trying on this piece instead of ruining another one. So I tried another B. And another. And another. It wasn't until Bs #6 (a little too light) and #7 that I got something that actually LOOKED like a real, honest to goodness letter B. *sigh*

Valentine's Day is coming you know... so I HAD to try out an "I Love You" I was almost going to do "I Love U" but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Other than being a little wonky, it's readable. Not something I would sell by any means, but a good second try, I thought.

But since it really wasn't something I was thrilled with, I decided to simplify on the third one.

Not particularly centered, but by far the best of the three, wouldn't you agree? Still probably wouldn't sell it, but I like to witness my own progress. =)

I'm thinking I may have to shop around for different stamps. The letters are so thin, that I'm not sure I like them. But they are what I have for now, so I will use them. I DEFINITELY need more practice. Any word suggestions?

I hope I gave you all a good chuckle with these first attempts. I know I giggled a few times myself. =D The GOOD news with this whole experience is that it was actually really FUN to do. I can see how people become addicted to this sort of thing.

Thanks for reading! Don't forget to pass my blog on to anyone you know! I'm super fantastic you know, so I'm sure everyone you know will wonder how on earth they survived without reading my randomness. B. I THINK it's been between 4 and 5 years, which is totally absurd in my book. I cannot believe it has been that long. But here's the thing. I have never paid myself. I HAVE traded for things, like portraits and iron-ons (Hi Jessica!) but I have never given myself permission to spend something on myself. So I decided it was time to change that. =D

I have been keeping my eye on a pair of boots (cowboy, not trendy fashionable ones... not sure I could pull that look off) I set myself some guidelines for when I would let myself get them. And, by golly, when everything was squared away as I wanted, with the proper balance in my checking account, I sure did go buy them. They are my new pride and joy. They're nothing special. Very plain. Just as I wanted.

Now I just need some longer pants...

And remember that New Years resolution of mine? The one about me trying something new each week (unless I have orders to fill... orders trump experimenting) and blogging about it, and posting pictures on FB and all that good stuff? Well, what do you know? I actually did it. It's a good start to the year, I think.
I haven't come up with a name for it yet, but I really like it. I've already figured out some ways to improve it for the next time. I think it's a very satisfactory first try at something new. That's right, folks. I have already decided what my jewelry resolution will be for the new year. Does that make me a little bit crazy? Probably. But I'm totally okay with that. ;) We all know I'm a little bit crazy anyway, so you really shouldn't be surprised.

But... I'm going to need your help with it. I need you to pester me about it if I'm not sticking to it. Deal? Cool. Thanks. I knew I could count on you. =D

So... here's what I came up with:

Each week I'm going to try a new pattern/technique. I'm going to POST PICTURES of it, too. (Because, seriously, I'm LAME-O when it comes to posting pictures regularly) So keep an eye out for totally new pieces from me each week, starting after the new year. The holidays are far too crazy to start it now.

And be sure to call me on it if I'm not getting it done. I'm really excited for this. I always find new projects that I'm going to try, but I get distracted and forget about them. So now I get to pull some of those articles, etc., out and give them a go.

It's going to be totally stellar. Just wait and see. ;)B. Accessorizedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07235144717859773388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8806274195083996697.post-79291541521131207432010-11-15T08:46:00.000-06:002010-11-15T08:46:31.794-06:00Displays!I've been searching the internet for a while now, trying to find some ideas for new displays. So... I thought I knew what I wanted to do, so I went in search of my supplies. I spent a LOT of time in Hobby Lobby (listening to A. make the necessary animal noise any time he saw an animal on the decorative stuff) I totally hit the jackpot. Didn't really buy what I had planned on buying, but that's beside the point. ;) I'm really excited to try out my new stuff this coming weekend. Wish me luck!B. I've never really been invited to do any, but this year I've had several approach me. So THANK YOU! to all of you that passed my info along. I can't tell you what it means to me that you all would think enough of my "business" that you would do that.

Same goes for all of my new "likes" on Facebook. I can't believe that I'm inching up to 300 fans!

So Thanks to all of you that have mentioned me to someone else, for whatever reason. <3B. Sad. Facebook is definitely the easier way for me to stay on top of things, but I'll do my best to get back on the blogging bandwagon. ;)

Things have been going fairly well for me lately. The Millard West Craft Fair went fairly well. It was really nice to have some friends in on the action, too. It was a LOT of fun. =) The Maplewood UMC potato bake/vendor fair went okay, too. It's always fun to sell to people I know.

So... overall, things are very happy. I may not be buying my boots just yet (those will be my first paycheck to myself EVER!) but I think I'll be showing them off sometime in the very near future. =D

As always, if you know anyone interested in hosting a party, or someone getting married, etc., please send them my way! I really enjoy both of those sides of B. Accessorized.
It's been a while. But I wanted to give you a heads up on what is going on my the world of B. Accessorized. =) I'm working on a couple of "lines" in my jewelry that will be coming out in the fall. Hopefully there will be some sneak peeks sometime soon.

Here's the breakdown:

Child of Mine: A line of little girl jewelry. Besides the basics of bracelets, necklaces, and earrings, there will also be some matching Mother/Daughter sets. Guaranteed to be suitable for every age.

Wear Your Faith: Lots of crosses to show the world that you love God. I'm working on some elegant "colors of faith" pieces as well.

I'm Yours: Wedding jewelry! Crystals, pearls, or whatever you want your wedding jewelry to be. My goal is to make something special for your special day, but also something you and your wedding party 1`can wear over and over again.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know! And feel free to pass on word of B. Accessorized. =)
A super special open house. A "Name Your Price" Open House. That's right. I'm letting YOU tell ME what you want to pay for the pieces you choose. (as long as you play nice and don't offer like $1 or something)

Why am I doing this?

I have a few reasons. One is because I have a lot more inventory than I would like. Another is that I want to start exploring some new ways to make jewelry, and to do that I need to sell some things so I can pay for my new adventures. =)

So please keep an eye out for when I get this open house scheduled. And for those of you that can't make it on the day I choose, you will be more than welcome to set up a time after the OH and you'll still get to name your price. I'm really excited for it! So please watch for further details.

Woot!
Once upon a time, I had all of my pieces named. Well, most of them had names. Anyway, I want to rename all of them, and I need your help. So go check out my pictures, either here or on FB, and post your idea as a comment on the picture. You can be as creative as you want, or even use your own name (my sister has a necklace named after her.) You can even ask your kids what they think good names are. I make no promises that the ideas will be used, but they will certainly be considered. =) Thanks everyone!B. Like I'm back in action. Awesome. So what have I been up to the last few months? I bet you're just glued to your seat waiting to find out. ;) WAAAAYYYY back in Nov. I did two shows. One small one at my church that went very well. Better than expected. Then I did the big giant scary craft fair at Northwest. That one... not so good. At least I made more than I paid to participate! And overall it was a good experience. And in Dec. I was invited to join an open house by my lovely friend Jene' That actually went pretty well. I have come to the conclusion that I do best when there's no competition. It's a little bit of a sad realization, but an honest one. And I think I'm okay with it. And let's face it... when there are 800 million jewelry makers at a single craft fair, it's not likely that I'm going to really stand out.

OH! I almost forgot to add... I made the jewelry for a friend of a friend's wedding. That was super fun. I really enjoyed it. I thought it turned out really well. I had assumed that I would just be making it for the bridesmaids, thinking that no bride is going to risk getting some crappy jewelry for her wedding day. But I was wrong! She asked me to make hers, too. It really made me nervous, but I THINK I met her expectations. Or at least came close. I wouldn't mind doing more wedding jewelry in the future. It's so fun and purdy. =D

Okay, so now what am I going to do with all this new-found knowledge? I'm not really sure yet. hehe. I'm hoping to do another large craft fair this spring. Probably a diferent one, though. I'm going to readjust my prices on a few things, but I still think I have kept my prices pretty reasonable. And I want to start having a little more focus with what I make. I'll still have a plethera of randomness, since it seems to suit me and I like offering a variety, but I really want to have a focus somewhere in all of that mishmash.

So what will be my focus? GLAD YOU ASKED. =) I'm going to try to really expand my kid line. Little girls need little jewelry. The other focus is that I am going to start a faith line. I am proud to be a Christian, and while not everyone feels the same, I think it's something worth making.

And I would also like to find some more people to host B. Accessorized parties. I really enjoyed the one that I did (THANK YOU LAURA!) So hopefully I will find some hostesses that are willing to take a chance. I know I can't offer as many discounts and freebies as the big companies, but I give what I can.

I'm also making some donations to the MY OMAHA MOMMIES raffle. That always excites me. And I love that group! So hopefully my donations will earn them some $$$ =D

Well, I think that's it in a nutshell folks. Hopefully I will be posting more frequently again, and posting more pictures. Peace out, my friend. Thanks for reading. =)B. Accessorizedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07235144717859773388noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8806274195083996697.post-74236969600979008032009-10-28T08:35:00.000-05:002009-10-28T08:35:43.355-05:00Craft FairI know most of you know this already, but I'm blogging it anyway. ;) I am an official vendor at the Northwest HS Craft Fair! It's all happening Nov. 7 from 9am to 4pm. Northwest is located at 8204 Crown Point Ave right here in Omaha.

I can't tell you how excited I am for this. Scared out of my mind too, of course. But mostly excited. I've done the small shows at my church that they do every year, but that's basically just people I know. And I've sold to friends, even had an open house, but again it was people that I know. So to me, this craft fair will really tell me how I'm doing. I am constantly wondering if my dear friends are buying to make me feel better. Don't get me wrong... I don't think my friends would buy things they didn't like, but part of me wonders if they had found those pieces as a store, would they have put them back on the rack? At this craft fair, 99% of the people that I encounter will be total strangers. So if they're buying my things, I think I will really start to feel more confident. Well, confident might be going a little far, but you know what I mean. =)

I have become increasingly aware that I really don't have much inventory. But there's not much I can do about that right now, so I'm trying to not let that bother me. Hopefully the next time I do this I will have more to present. And really, what's the wort that can happen? I sell everything I own? Oh darn. That would just be TERRIBLE. hahaha

I did mention to Dave that if this doesn't go well then I'm calling it quits. I really hope it doesn't come to that. And I would MAYBE try Etsy out first. But we shall see. Hopefully I won't have to worry about that. I think I'll do okay. There are some things that I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't sell, and some that I'm very confident that they will sell. It will be what it will be. I'm TRYING to not stress about it. (if you know me at all, you know just how funny that little statement is)

So here's to me. =DB. It was a little stressful, since I had no idea what size to make the thing, but it turned out really well. But little Lola has outgrown her bracelet. So that she can keep the origional as a keepsake, I made a new one and it is SOOO cute. I'll take a picture of it later, hopefully. And this lovely friend asked me to make a few others, too. It's so exciting! I just love these little bracelets. I hope they fit (I'm VERY nervous about that part). And I appreciate Linda so much for drumming up business for me. It means a lot for a friend to do that. Happy day people. =)
